Hello, world!
I finally decided to start a blog. And if you're reading this, that means I've actually managed to get it up and running.
The blog is named β Orionis
, it is the name of a blue-colored star in the constellation of Orion. I like the color blue and stars in general, so I thought it would be a good name for a blog. I might change it in the future if I come up with a better name.
The blog is powered by Zola, it's fast and seems easy to use. A big reason why I choose Zola is that it's written in Rust, I want to touch as less JavaScript as possible, and I'm trying to learn Rust, it seems like a good way to get some practice if I ever want to modify some under-the-hood stuff.
The theme, if you are reading this when it just came out, is a modified version of Terminimal. It is a cool theme, but I don't like the vertical bars on the header, but I haven't figured out how to remove them yet. Another reason why I chose Zola is that it's easy to create custom themes and modify page layouts. I'm not a designer, and I hardly know how to write CSS, but I'm sure I'll figure it out.
So, I plan to write a custom theme for this blog, I am going to add a few more custom pages, like a projects page and a friends page. I'm also going to add a few more features, like a search bar, word counter, reading time indicator, RSS feed, and anything cool that I can think of.
The blog is hosted on GitHub Pages, the repository is private if you are looking for it. If I ever decide the aforementioned custom theme is good enough to be shared, I'll make it available in a public repository. It took me a while to figure out how to properly set up the DNS records on Google Domains, but as I said, if you are reading this, it means I've managed to get it working, hopefully with HTTPS.
As for the blog content, I'm not sure what I'll write about, side projects (boy do I have a truckload of them), thoughts, and maybe even some life updates, who knows?
If you have any suggestions or feedback, feel free to contact me via the contact method from which you gained knowledge of the existence of this blog. If you are reading this in the future, you can probably find a contact method on the README Page.
I hope you enjoyed reading this first blog post as much as I enjoy writing it.
